About the LS1 cam...The reason the 01-02 made more power was because...*drumroll* ...GM used the 5.3 truck camshaft in it. Believe it or not, the truck cam provided more torque sooner and also a higher peak hp than the cam that was used in the LS1 from 98-00. Maybe try for an LS6 cam if you want slightly bigger.
