Anyone can pull a trigger on a paint gun. Not everyone is willing to make their fingers bleed with prep though.
My ashtray already had a run in it, so it still does even after we painted it. Like you, I'm not building a show truck, it'll be worked. I just want it to look good since it'll reflect on my business.
