Most of it is because the current racing world is all about BIG CID's
Being that most of our trucks scale out @ 3500-4100lbs and street driven.
It takes a good head and a custom grind cam profile that's been researched on a simulator to make work nicely over 7k. A nice low slip converter helps out also.
physics also point out that High Rpm motors normally work best in light vehicle and a steep gear.
