My bedrails were shipped in sections. There were two screws to hold the each pipe to the towers. Looks like there's a single set screw on the roof rack that allows the towers to rotate on the pipe. Steel set screw-pot metal towers. Don't think they'll come loose to rotate the towers to make the package thinner.
I have a similar roof rack that I got off a van in Sparks Nv. The rails do not come out of the towers. They are flattened to prevent the wind passing over the tubes from creating vibration and noise.
They sell the original style fasteners that hold the towers to the roof. Basically a rubber T like a rivet with a threaded brass insert. When you tighten the Philips oval head machine screw the rubber T mushrooms and holds the towers in place.
I have the mounting instructions in my trailer but it's jammed up against a row of cedars that have iced over from the ice storm that just went through.
