there should be a clip on wire, clips on both ends, one on the inst panel, the other clips to the dash (not firewall). I have only seen one in person.
I would make a ground wire that bolts to the panel, and then with an eyelet goes under the panel and mounts with a panel mounting screw.
I've done that with all my trucks and have never had an issue.
