It can really be mounted anyway you want. I even made one of my own brackets to attach to my (custom) lower dash panel. The OE stud they are refering to is the bolt for the hood hindge. The other bracket shown in the diagram I just welded a stud to the backside of the firewall. Pay close attention to the areas that Solid Axel mentioned.
