Parts look good ! you could notch the cracks, but it just seemed like extra work to me. I used a wooden paintbrush handle to push that clay patch down into the cracks. with jb weld being more liquid like, you could get it in there pretty good by having the tube right against the crack as you apply. also use something to get the excess off, or you will have a lot of extra filing.
