If it is canceling the noise, it is doing it with a reversion of the exhaust gases, which in turn is creating a backpressure. However slight it may be. There is another way to do the exhaust if you want to try it. It involves no mufflers and the use of "J" tubes, which are tubes welded onto the exhaust close to the rear exit point and they make a pressure bubble that helps to cancel loud noise. The "J" tube is welded to the side of the pipe under the vehicle.
