It sounds like you don't have the memory wire(yellow on an aftermarket player) hooked up to a constant 12V source.
Red needs to go to a source that is switched to only provide power with the ignition on or in accessory, yellow to a source with constant 12v regardless of key position.
If it is wired correctly, then it is most likely a problem with the player.
