What is appropriate wheel hole size for K20 Suburban?

I bought some 16", 8x6.5 lug, steel rims off of CL from a later model truck and they were REALLY tight going over the front 4wd hub of my '71 3/4 ton Suburban(scraping along in fact). I haven't even tried the rears yet.

What is the appropriate HOLE size for rims on 3/4 ton Suburbans?

Also, could the hub be damaged by having the rim up tight against while driving around?

My prior wheels had a decent gap between the inside rim and the hub. Now there is no space whatsoever. Will too much force be transferred to the hub now when driving? If so, I will ditch the wheels.

Thanks!
