Absolutely build it how you want according to your skills and BUDGET.
I personally searched for a short frame until I found one ($600). Makes for a much cleaner build. $1400 delivered for bed parts isn't bad. You may spend that or more on using what you have. You can save more $ going to a wood bed instead of steel. Just my .02$ worth.
