Re: Finally caught a break NP440 / MY 6

I had my shifter rebuilt from Hurst, and it was money well spent... the difference in performance was night and day.

The Mopar 4spd OD shifters are also Hurst, but they have different fingers coming out the bottom and will not work with our version of the transmissions.

Any Hurst, GM or Mopar "Bayonett" style shift handle can be used with the shifter. I have a Mopar van shift handle in my Suburban: It's a simple tubular black-painted shift handle with the threads on the end for the shift ball (not flat stock like the chrome shift handles are). On the van, it comes up through the floor about even with the driver's shoulder, and angles forward a bit so the shift ball is in line with the driver's thigh.
On my Suburban, I simply turned it around backwards, and it now angles back just perfectly, and being round stock and painted black, it had the utilitarian look I was going for with the Suburban. I'll end up putting a chrome shifter in it, and transferring the round black one to my K10.
