Re: Brother's keeper - '58 Stepside build

So the public debut of the truck turned out better than I could have ever anticipated. I met a bunch of cool car people, answered so many questions and had a great time showing off the truck. The most commonly asked question was about the color. I also had a couple guys make offers on the truck, which I politely declined. When it was all said and done, the '58 ended up winning in the "Late Truck" class, which was really gratifying after 3 years of late nights and weekends out in the garage.

Before announcing the awards for Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engineered, Best of Show, etc... the host club, The Gopher State Timing Association called me up for the John & Marge Foster Memorial Award. Out of respect for the Fosters, I later contacted the GSTA to find out about the Foster's story. I wanted to understand the significance of the award. This was their response;

John Foster was the "founding father" of Gopher State Timing Association and was President for many years. John & Marge went on to manage Minnesota Dragways for many years. Marge was always by John's side. They tragically died together. Since their death we annually give this award in their names to the winner of the vehicle GSTA members would most want to take home from the show. This award is voted on by GSTA members in attendance at the car show...WELL DONE

I have a fair number of plaques and trophies from car shows over the years, but the Foster Memorial Trophy is the most meaningful recognition I have ever received. An award bestowed by a group of folks that I have always admired and respected. What a cool way to roll out a new build...
