So the main tank gauge works fine, but the aux did not. It would just peg straight to the 3 o clock position as soon as you flipped the switch. The ground strap looked intact when I pulled it. It may have lost it ground thru the sending unit
locking ring?
You could remove that ring a clean everything up
Then put it back and see if it works.
That's the vent they used back then.
I had the same type on some of my trucks.
Make sure it is clear (so it can vent).
