Difference in "frugal" and "cheap"...

There is a fine line between being frugal and cheap. I was changing U joints on the 3500 yesterday, chasing a drivetrain vibration, when I saw the center U joint yoke ears looked like they had been hammered down around the snap ring. I broke out the die grinder to try to clean it up and I realized...it's not sparking. Someone had shattered a bunch of small chunks out of the ears and instead of replacing the slip yoke, they installed the snap ring and slopped some JB Weld or similar all around the U joint cap. I extracted the cap and flipped the yoke over the pull the other cap out. As soon as it started moving, a huge chunk of JB Weld let go.
A new Spicer slip yoke is $47.99 at Summit. I'm pretty sure this crosses that line into "cheap" or even "stupid" territory.

Anyone else have good examples?
