Re: Questions about my gauges

Yes, oil pressure gauge on high is normal with the engine running and driving. Sometimes at low idle mine will go down to about 2/3.

The temperature gauge is normally on cold when the truck is cold, and moves to about 1/4 when the engine is at normal operating temperature, and moves to the thick banded hot area when the engine is overheating, at which point you should shut off the engine immediately. If you temp gauge stays on high even with the battery disconnected, then you probably have a bad gauge. If it is on cold with no power then goes to high when you turn on the key or lights that may mean you have the wrong sender in your engine or a short to ground in the wire that leads to the engine. A short to ground can be caused by the sender wire touching the exhaust manifold and melting of the insulation on the wire.
