The rebuilt 292 distributor would seem to fit the bill best.
If you let the truck sit months at a time the hei is way better than points.
The 292 has a smaller rpm range than the smaller motors and a slower rate of increase, especially in a truck.. I would guess the centrifical portion has lighter spring resistance.

However, curve tuning on an inline is getting into the finite . At that point, factory setups are only baseline tuning. To optimize for you elevation, climate and weight your going your own specific path.

On a race track it probably matters. In a truck you are probably hard pressed to feel a difference.
