As has been proved here many times nothing is too far gone, for a good man, or woman with a welder, the desire and a strong commitment.
I agree it has been done. My question is should it been done. Unless the vehicle has emotional and family ties some of the rust buckets need to go. Find a nicer one to start with. Save time, money and the marriage.
