You first must remove the clear anodize that's on top of the aluminum. For this I use Oven Cleaner ( original,heavy duty, stinky kind; the fume free is not as good), a green Scotch Brite pad & lots of elbow grease. Tried other things & always go back using oven cleaner. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes before you start scrubbing. After annodize all removed (may take a few sessions), you can sand with finer sandpaper for smoother, more consistent aluminum finish.
Tape up & paint your black areas.
Then polish with Mothers aluminum polish & finish with a good wax to protect it.
This will last about a year with weekend driving then may need to repolish & wax periodically.
