I’ve been tinkering with the timing trying to make the cold start pop right off (like it did on the run stand).
I need some advice please.
I have a standard points distributor converted to Pertronix 1181LS. No more points or condenser.
Rochester 2Jet carb I rebuilt myself. Ran fine on the run stand on two different 283 SBC.
I set initial timing at 16* advance with vacuum advance line plugged and idle RPMs at 700.
Then I lock it down and reconnect the vac advance line to the dizzy and RPMs jump up about 250 RPMs. I then back off the idle screw to get 700 RPMs again. The timing light shows about 25* of advance.
So the manifold vacuum is strong enough to pull an additional 9* of vacuum advance at idle.
I have no idea what the timing is at higher RPMs. I’ll need a better timing light to figure that out.
