This is the Casselman River Bridge (aka Little Crossings Bridge) on the National Road in Grantsville, MD. The National Road was the first national road and this is one of the first hiway bridges in the country. The first ones would be east, the direction the road was built from. The National Road provided a route west over the mountains to connect Baltimore with the Mississippi River in 1813, long before the automobile. It became US40 once the Federal Hiway system organized. So, this was a bridge on coast to coast US 40 through '33. I remember when I was a kid it was a park but you were still allowed to drive cars across it. It's a sight to see in person (I didn't take the last picture
