When they bolted on a rebuilt GM 12 Bolt rear-end at Tucson Differential, my '68 C/10 Stepside's Odo read 405,083. I was told to break it in by making runs of 15 - 20 miles, and letting the pumpkin cool down, and to change the 80-140 weight oil after 500 miles.
The other day, the Odo read 405,584 when I got home.
So it's time to drop the cover, drain the gear oil, look for metal shavings, read the wear pattern, bolt the cover back on, and refill with fresh gear oil.
Then I can cruise the freeways without let or hindrance.
