Depends on the measuring tool you have.
Put it on the yoke ear or the yoke face.
With 2-3 down on the trans and at zero on the pinion you should be fine. The rear end tends to climb (rotate) upwards a couple degrees making them equal. Leaf sprung does that, coil spring doesn’t.
