This engine has a fresh bottom end .030" over, I bought it used with low flowing 896 heads as my block was cracked. The block numbers matched my cracked block so its period correct 1966-67. I popped heads off had a quick look at cylinders and lapped valves and put new seals on and threw it back together but it feels underpowered everywhere pretty much lol . I should make some decent gains with cam, heads, intake and carb im hoping. I know these 461 double hump heads are larger 64cc from what ive read so hope my deck height is decent and i wont be down on compression too much. i'll do some measuring when i tear into it. The camel hump heads were on my original block so figured id utilize them. Anyways hoping to find a good cam spec for this build

The 283 mentioned in this thread had to go back to the builder after 600 miles of driving. They tore it down under warranty and rebuilt it. It had a faulty lifter.
So while the other engine was out of the truck, I swapped in a different 283. It’s a fresh Jasper rebuilt 1966 283 with powerpack heads and a GK 930 cam. I think they perform about the same. I am also running a Camaro T5 (assembled in an S10 case and tailshaft) with 0.72 OD and 3.73 rear axle and 29” diameter rear tires. Neither 283 likes a slight hill in OD unless RPMs are 2300 or higher. I usually cruise at 65 MPH which means I’m at 2000 RPMs. So I’m downshifting on small hills.
I’m swapping in an S10 T5 with a 0.86 OD gear. That will bump the RPMs up enough for less downshifting and I doubt the MPGs will suffer much.
