I have an S10 gear set in my other truck and I really like it. That truck has a 230ci engine and drives great.
Let’s compare the Camaro V8 gears in my 1965 to the S10 gears in my 63 C10.

1.94 / 2.37

0.73 / 0.86
I agree that the S10 1st gear is a little annoying. Too low, but I can live with it. The 2.95 Camaro gear is perfect.
The rest of the gears are pretty close.
If you try to swap the S10 0.86 gear onto the Camaro shaft it becomes a 0.63 gear. I’ve done the math.
