I didn't stay there long though. When I graduated and went full-time at the machine shop that was $14.01 and the Monday after I turned 18, I got bumped to 2nd shift I hated that, but it was an extra $0.35 shift-differential.

I got my first real job (which launched a 42-year career in telecom) just out of high school in 1967, five days after turning 18. Starting wage was $1.91 1/2 per hour. We were alternating 50-hour weeks (5 tens) and 58-hours (add Saturday). I thought I was rich. The job involved a lot of travel, and after your first relocation you got an extra $9 a day tax-free per diem. Wasn't long after that I bought a new '68 Camaro RS. Gas was still around 30 cents a gallon. Life was good....
