X2! There are too many wheels out there with limited backspace options to make the axle width decision based on a different combination. Not to mention the different brake options and axle bearing selection that can alter the width of the axle.

Get the tires mounted on the wheels and mock them up in your truck, at ride height, then you can determine the clearance on both sides of the tire and when your satisfied measure your width between the wheel mounting surfaces for your axle width.
