I wouldn't use Ice & Water Shield either. Or any asphalt-based product. Think tar. Also not a good idea, but no different from brushing tar on. It is acidic and can also cause sweating. An old school standing seam roofer I used to work with refused to put his roof over tar paper due to the corrosive nature. We'd put down red rosin paper instead. Definitely choose something other than the Ice & Water Shield. Also, looking ahead it will be a muckin' fess to remove.
