My 250 was leaking oil from the rear seal and using a fair bit of oil. Upon disassembly I found stuck oil rings. Pouring water down the carb at fast idle may have fixed that. The camshaft was also not long for this world so I put in a farmer (me) overhauled 350 that so far am quite happy with. I don't think fuel consumption is much different either but power is much better.
