My thoughts are the stock driveline setup (shortened) would work just fine.
IMHO, It's torque and wide tires that tear up drivelines.
I have mentioned this before, with a long box I recommend staying with a two piece driveline.
Especially with the OD transmission which adds 1/3 more motor RPM to the drive-shaft in OD gear.

BTW My C10 short box came with a slip joint at the center bearing. 6 Cylinder, 3 speed, coil springs.
