I have a couple of angle steel pieces from the hardware store (just like the article linked by Geezer#99). One is for 5x4.75 car pattern; the other is 5x5 truck. Same principle as the plywood set-up I suggested though. I use them or a wheel that fits & do the math from that. It's easy enough to do the measurements from there.
