Re: 1972 GMC Using 2003 Chevy 2500HD duramax Chassis

I'm back to work on the 72. I put in new lights in the garage, since it gets dark so early.
I started mounting the bed. I removed the cross members from the bottom of the bed floor. Since I was going to have to notch the cross members I wanted to use a thicker beam. I used 2"X2" 1/4" square tube. Probably a little overkill. I had to figure out if I wanted to weld the beams to the frame and bolt the bed floor to the beams, or weld the beams to the floor and bolt it to the frame. I decided that since I was notching the beams, they would be stronger if I welded the beams to the frame. I was worried about the frame being too rigid if I did this. When I laid out the beams on the frame, there was a frame cross member there anyway, so I figured it was okay. I still have one more beam to make but I had to put the bed on to measure for it.
