I went through three (THREE!) Carter mechanical pumps in the course of two (TWO!) years with my '77 Silverado, then went electric with an AC Delco EP12S which lasted six years, and lastly did a Carter 4070 with a regulator and then sold the truck.

Most fuel pumps can push well, but do not suck well - make them push through the filter, not suck through it.
