Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010

Thanks Scoti. I think that I will be fine with these. I know at some point I will be changing the firewall to clear it and smooth some things out anyway.

Last night after posting I found some energy and time to do a little on the engine. Now I have another issue that I will need to decide on. In the pictures, I took the time to mock up 2 different headers on each side. On the passenger side both fit well and did not rub on anything. The pictures show that one set hangs down much futher then the other. The one set hangs 4.5" below the frame rail! The other set only hangs down about 2.25" below the frame rail and reaches further to the rear.

On the Driver side I had other issues. Set 1 fits perfect, but hangs down too far. Set 2 fits and does not hang down too low, BUT up top, the #5 tube HITS my brake lines coming down from the master cylinder. I wish I had a Driver side header that fits like Set 1 up top, but hangs down like Set 2...

I had to force the lines over and back a little to even get the header to line up with the mounting holes. The lines sprung back in place when I took the header out. My issue is do I look for other headers that fit the way I want, or do I just make new lines that clear these headers? These headers (Set 2) came off a 68 Camaro, but the owner of the car has no idea what brand they could be. He got the car with them on it. He now has a set of Headman's on it and the look similar to these. These are rusted pretty badly in places and might even have a few holes in them. The Set 1 headers are Flowtech, but I cannot find a part number on them. They are in OK shape and would probably clean up and be fine, they just hang way too low.

I might just cut up Set 1 so that i does not hang so low, but then I would not be able to buy a new coated set later one. My buddy with the Camaro is going to get me some pictures of the new Headmans on his car to see if Set 2 looks like them and might be older Headmans...He just had shoulder surgery and can't drive the car to work for me to have a first hand look at them on his car...

What do you guys think?
