A little more detail on the background on the ‘why’ of this project:
My initial interest in these trucks started when I was 5 years old. I remember going with my dad to pick up the ’72 K20 back in 1975. Then my uncle and grandfather bought a used ’72 K/5 to use as a hunting vehicle. As I got older, I started driving the K20 to school. Once my Grandma moved off the farm, I inherited the K/5 and was very happy to run around in it! My dad restored the K20 and in 2018, I took ownership of that too.
Unfortunately, as most of you can relate, life throws curves at us. Both the K/5 and K20 had to be sold at various times for various reasons.
This project allows me to tie in the K/5 Blazer from the farm (original wheels, Blazer will be painted green to match the look of the farm K/5) and the K20 (original steering wheel, sun visors, and outer grill with the dents from when I put it in the ditch), along with the 1999 Tahoe that my uncle owned when he passed away from brain cancer. This along with the fact that my kiddos truly enjoy riding around in the Blazer, allow me to truly enjoy this vehicle along with remembering family members and vehicles no longer here.
Thank you for all the words of encouragement! I look forward to getting this back together and running next summer/fall. Stay tuned!
