All I have ever used is Turtle Wax White Polishing Compound by hand. Works good for me. I never use a machine on old oxidized paint. Too much chance of polishing through the paint. If you do that there's no chance of going back.....

Here is the hood on the '70 I polished out. I'm not looking for a show shine, just to clean off the oxidation. Your mileage may vary.

Just my 2¢ worth.
