The adjustment is done under the body, on the threaded rod end of the cable.

By ''caged grommet'' do you mean the cable end clip. It has a short 90* bend to fit in a hole in the Pedal Assembly.

Once you pry the old rubber grommet out of the firewall the cable end and clip will slip thru the rectangular hole.

Other cable clips went back to the old positions. If I could, I used the old ones, but where it was a big hassle, I may have used an LMC clamp.
It took several tries and a few days to sort it all out.
