Actually unlocked is the "ideal" setup since you don't need as much advance down low, but for a strip truck where you spend most of the time in the top end in you power band, the optimum timing does not vary hardly at all with higher rpm so you can get away with locked timing since the motor hardly spends any time in the lower rpms (or none with a high stall TC).
