I think you should also tell us if your drive shaft is tapered ie 3" middle with 2 3/4" ends for example, also the material used for the piping may be thinner than what they can make you a new full length 3" one these days (3x.083), and what about the U joints are they the bigger kind, do they have the zirc fittings or not (I hear the non zirc fittings ones are stronger) I bit the bullet and dropped the $300 bucks on a new drive shaft for a piece of mind

not to offend you but was the vehicle sitting flat on the ground when you crawled under it to measure it, you don't know how many times I have seen guys measure with the truck still on jack stands

it's the towing part that concerns me
