To get rid of the under hood heater box, you should be able to just remove it and install the original block off plates that came on trucks without a heater. The following shows what they look like on a 60-62. I think the long upper item is the same until 66, and the lower one is a different shape for 63-66.



My truck came stock with no heater so the plates shown are original to the truck. I later removed these and installed the deluxe fresh air heater, and hated it. I put the plates back on and subsequently installed an original recirculating (economy) heater which is completely contained on the passenger side of the firewall. This is all that shows from the engine side:



These heaters may have only been offered in the 60-62 models, I don't have confirmation either way.
