Just to follow up on this thread. I figured out a good solution. I bought some 4mm self tapping screws. I cut the screws to the length I needed and screwed the cowl pin to the cowl. It worked perfect and is very secure. You will also need to trip the "arrow" looking piece at the top of the pin since you now have the self tapper coming from the bottom up.
Another benefit to using the self tappers is you can leave them a little loose, then you can adjust the placement of the pin while it is on the truck, then you can fine tune the place of the cowl.
