The purpose of the tan wire #2 that goes to the ignition switch and then to the brakes is for the brake warning light. It is a way to test that your brake warning light bulb works.
I talked to a guy at Classic Instruments, and you are dead on, dude. The volt meter on the new set gets its reading from the power wire, so I don't need the 1 or 12 pin, and I just coiled up the #2 pin and wire and zip tied it back. I may use it to power something else in the near future when the suspension gets here.
