H = 1987 model year
F = Flint Assembly plant
500xxx = sequential portion of VIN)

So - to summarize - two vehicles built in the same model year in the same assembly plant down two different lines: two different SPID styles.

Mine's a Chevy, his is a GMC. Maybe that's the difference?

Or maybe when during the model year it was built? Mine was built in September of '86.

Hi Kieth, I didn't know that GMC had there own assembly lines that were not shared with Chevrolet. That could explain the difference in the SPID format. At the top of your SPID what does the typed number 515906 represent?
