I'd at least buy the panel that they sell to fill it with rather than try to weld in the vent. I have to agree that finishing it off so it didn't show would be pretty hard. Probably the best way would be to cut the area around the vent out and make a patch that can be butt welded in just as you would butt weld in any other filler patch in. A section cut out of donor panel from an AD truck might be best rather than one cut from a piece of new sheet metal. Most of us have a throw away door hood or some other piece around that we could cut a patch out of and have the same thickness and alloy makeup of the cowl panel .
