Road draft tube conversion.

I’ve read lots of stuff about converting an engine draft tube to PCV. Some folks put a freeze plug in the big hole where the tomato can baffle goes and just use modern rocker covers with a breather and PCV system. Of course that works just fine and is an option that makes sense.

For me, I wanted to use the original 283 Chevy script valve covers which don’t have a hole for a PCV or oil fill. The 283 oil fill tube up front has a breather cap already.

Vendors sell a road draft tube adapter. It wouldn’t be hard to fabricate a piece that would work just as well as what the vendors sell. Basically it’s a domed cap for the draft tube hole with a nipple on the side. Then you run a 1/2” vacuum hose to a PCV that connects to the carb base with a 45* or 90* fitting. That supplies sips of manifold vacuum to the road draft setup. I hope you like the pics.
