I could see this. I'd not really care for some how-do-you-do walking up to my house with my wife answering the door and asking to see my truck because he "owned it a long time ago".

I'd go with the PI angle and just send them a letter once you find out. Last time I bought a PI it was about $240.00 so it's not stupid expensive if you give enough info and find one that's pretty laid back.
