Swapping big block for small 71 4x4 3/4 Suburban
I know it's been asked before but I'm throwing it out there again. I'm installing a 502 in place of a 350 in a 4x4. The body is off, I'm also installing an Art Carr 4L60 trans. I'd like to keep transfer case in same location, moving motor about 2 1/2" forward. I'd also like to use original crossmember and towers. I have a 71 4x4 truck that I swapped 4 speed for 400 AT. Left transfer case moved motor forward all good, I'm hoping to have the same luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Re: Swapping big block for small 71 4x4 3/4 Suburban
2 1/2" inches forward for the big block is just about perfect.
Then you can use a stock small block fan shroud, the only thing you will need to keep in mind is the oil pan clearance to the engine mounting cross member, if the pan has a single drop to the sump you will be fine. but if it has a "double" drop you will have issues. (A stock 68-72 truck big block pan is good) an early 65-70 Impala pan has the double drop and will not work without mods. |
