Anyone done this? Found a pic of one done on a truck for sale. Said he used a Blazer tank... must have flipped it around for RH fill? Looks like it could be a finger slicer.

He may have used a later model blazer/S10 blazer tank. They end up on the passenger side of the truck.

I was going to go this route - but to do it on a fleetside bed - it's a pain.
You have to weld some ears in the hole, and it's a tighter fit than a stepper.

It's any standard under bed tank that works with our trucks with an S-10 filler neck and door.

I'm going this with my 69' Step Side. I'm gonna conceal the fuel fill behind the D/S rear marker light. I am using a Blazer Poly Tank and will use a Fuel Neck from a 97' S-10. I'm also using the hinge from that same S-10 which will be attached to the Marker Light. Since the fuel neck on the tank is 1-1/4" and the S-10 filler neck is 2", I had to be creative. Here's what I came up with. A copper reducer - 2" to 1-1/2" then 1-1/2 to 1-1/4". I used Silver Solder. (Copper Set-Up was about $20.00 at a local plumbing shop). Once the 2 necks were 1-1/4", I used a 1-1/4" Fuel Line between the two.

NOTE: The Blazer filler neck on the tank is 1-1/4" OD

This is such a great mod. I've even seen the filler put behind the rear taillight as well as at the stop of the d/s rear stake pocket in conjuction with a marine filler.

I think this mod would concern me because the electrical wires are so close. Anyone else?

Otherwise I think it's a neat place to put it, especially if you widened the opening a little and made those edges safe so you don't slice your fingers getting the gas cap on and off.

I have almost completed mine. The tank is a custom tank, not a blazer tank and I started with searching for the info from old threads. There are a couple out there and they have lots of pics.

I used some different parts, and will have to list them, as they worke out quite well or me. I also used a cap frmone of the rod shops that you do not need to open,it has a spring loaded door the nozzle pushes through. Makes it real convenient.

The thing that stopped me from doing this was that many states (including the one I live in) have huge boots on the pump nozzles and that marker door opening is just too small.

Thats what I was thinking then I thought I never fill my rigs with the lights on ! That should end that ? I think ?

Remember, this is a marker light/reflector lens - so there are no wires in this area. Even the Step Side Light Wire is nowhere in that area. Those wires, when run in the stock location come straight down and from the light assemblies and go under the bed sill under the tailgate.

It looks like the original picture would be a tight squeeze and kind of an odd angle to get the nozzle in. I can't think of any other cool place to put the filler though. Maybe behind the tail light with a swing out?

The sidemarker mod was done by Tennman a member here(mostly inactive now)and he did a good write up on it.I think it's available on Wes's site.Someone also posted a rear light fill.I don't know if it made it to a FAQ or not.

I have done this mod on my stepside marker light,no problem geting the gas nozzle in.We don't have them big boot things here like what was mentioned by frizzle.

i did this on my truck, however i havent set up the door system yet, so i just have to take off my marker light every time i fill up, but its not really that big of a hassle, should prolly get around to that sometime soon.....

Thanks for the input everyone. My truck hasn't hit the road yet (except for a run up the road last fall) so I've been running around the yard on a gas can until I decide what I want to do. If I go rear tank, I might just put the filler in a recessed "bucket" inside the boxside. I'm still considering a tank under a crossover toolbox also. But the rear tank kit at $150 seems to be the no brainer. I'm going to be broke awhile, so I have plenty of time to make up my mind

In case you guys missed it the first time around, I posted two threads (including the Tenneman thread) with this mod, and a website with this mod in it.

Also, the problem with the behind the taillight idea is that you have to do a lot of cutting, and if you are doing this on an already completed truck, it is almost impossible.

I definetly thought of the filler cap in the bed. I had 2 issues:

the 1st: the Blazer Poly Tank has a fill neck on the D/S of the tank at a 45 degree angle.

the 2nd: I am trying not get fuel on my newly stained and clear coated wood bed. The 2 don't mix.

That is awesome! I like how you added in filer weld in the groves to make it have a stock feel, this is exactly how I want to do mine although I think I'll want to do it towards the front of the bed since mines going to be for mudding... i really like the way it looks though

I like the idea, but would worry about melting the plastic lenses with the fuel. If you are running Leaded fuel, the plastic dosn't stand a chance. It is only made from PC ABS.

You might want to incorporate a splash guard made from a sheet of rubber to redirect any splash or over fill.
