Removing my dash...help lol

So I've pulled out all the bolts I can find, it moves a bit but it just won't let go. I don't think just hauling on it is a good idea until I found out what's holding it lol hence my question here. My goal was to take it out to make the body work a bit easier.

thanks!

If you are refering to the metal dash panel #6 here, it is welded to the body at the windshield with a lot of spot welds.

During cab assembly the bolts are used to position the instrument panel then it is spot welded along the windshield lip. The assembly manual can give some more detail.

I've heard of guys cutting along the dash pad line that is hidden and welding it back in there. Not too sure on that though.

I didn't see any rust along side the dash. so I'll probably put the bolts back in and pretend I wasn't trying to take it off lol

Sounds like a good plan, I know that's what I did... It is a pita when you have the cab masked and trying to lay paint in there though. Spray a while... let the fog clear... spray some more... watch it run! I don't know about yours but mine was dirty but no issues with rust except over by the antenna mast area. After sucking a lot of dust it's all good now.

Just about anyone who sells Chevrolet truck parts will have a 67-72 factory assembly manual. Might even be able to find it on CD. Be forewarned it is not paginated and a pita to find anything in at first. However it has a lot of information for people willing to use it.

Here is the page specifying the 34 spotwelds for the instrument panel.

IMO you don't want to take the steel dash out unless absolutely necessary. real pita. Classic parts sells the assembly manuals at a good price to begin with ($30), then there is a 10% discount if you use "stovebolt" promo code. When I started my current build, I thought about buying one but have parted several, restored one GMC, so I know how itgoes together after all.

Re: Removing my dash...help lol

i have pulled a couple of "uncut" AC dashes from the junk yard. drilled out all of the spot welds with a cordless and then the 3 bolts on each side. It isnt that hard.

You might be suprised how much surface rust is between the dash and cab once you remove it. Someone on here has pictures. For a daily driver dont bother but if you are gonna restore it 100% then I would say yes pull it out.

Re: Removing my dash...help lol

You dont want to remove the steel dash----unless you Have to! I did it in my build and its not quick or real easy. I would not recommend drilling out the pinch welds (personally I wouldnt do anythng to possibly upset the way the windshield fits.)
