1966 c10

Hey guys,
Looking at a 1966 c10 stepside shortbed...All original, been painted once.
V8(327) automatic. 61k original miles
Navy owned it originally and it still has the brass plate on the glove box.
Very clean truck

What is a good price to pay for this truck?

Re: 1966 c10

From what I`ve seen in this area 2500=3500 for a unrestored truck in decent shape, but your in redwood city which could be slightly higher also the fact it may have come from mare island naval base.

Re: 1966 c10

I second what Rich said around here 2500-3500 maybe even 4000 if its all complete and not hacked up,but then again ive seen alot of p.o.s trucks posted for 4000- 5000 but they been for sale for along time....but right now alot of people are hurting for money so alot of good classic trucks and cars going for cheap.....if i had money and found a nice all o.g truck that was a driver id expect to pay up to $4000 maybe more depending on how well it has been maintained.

Re: 1966 c10

Here's the rest of the ad:

WE HAVE A BEAUTIFUL 1966 CHEVROLET C10 STEPSIDE/SHORT BED TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED BY THE UNITED STATES NAVY IN 1966 IN ALAMEDA.
MY DADS FRIEND BOUGHT IT FROM THE NAVY IN 1967 AND KEPT IT TILL MY DAD BOUGHT IT FROM HIM. THEY BOTH WORKED AS BERKELEY FIREMAN.
THE TRUCK HAS A 327 CHEVY V-8 WITH A TURBO 350 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE TRUCK HAS 61K MILES DOCUMENTED. THE TRUCK HAS A NAVY PLAQUE
WITH THE VIN# LOCATED ON THE DASHBOARD WHICH MAKES THIS A VERY RARE FIND. THE TRUCK HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION CONSIDERING IT IS ALMOST 50 YEARS OLD. THE ONLY ISSUE WITH THIS TRUCK IS A MINOR LEAK FROM THE TRANSMISSION SEAL. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BEAUTIFUL COLLECTORS VEHICLE, THIS IS THE BEST AROUND FOR THE PRICE.

Re: 1966 c10

I have test drove it and it rides as a stock 66 c10 would ride. There is some typical rust issues on the lower part of the doors, but nothing too bad...but then again I am not a rust expert.
He has come down on his price below 8000, I still think it is high, the bad part is that I am in the Navy and it being an old Navy truck has that cool factor to me...that is why I am still considering...if not an old Navy truck, probably would not consider truck.

$9500 just seems like a lot. Its neat that its an ex navy truck and what not but its got some rust on it never know what lies beneath. Nice truck, try talking him down

Tiny bit, just in the door areas...That I can see...the paint is 12 years old, so I think any other rust issues would have popped up...I think

You'll find that tiny bit of rust can turn into major in the drop of a hat - ask me how I know.

My advice would be to shop around. Even $8000 is a lot of money for that truck, imo. I'm not sure having the VIN on the dash is a desired enough option to drive the price up that high. Look at the Trucks for Sale section to get a decent gauge on the asking prices of comparable pickups.

Re: 1966 c10

Good post...

I was talking to a buddy that loves my truck, but he wants to buy one done. Tough deal really. Rust is hard to deal with and you really do not know how much work it will be to fix it until you take it apart and strip it down. TONS of little stuff that you never think about. I am getting close to having mine done. 4 years in the frame off, there are so many things that you find as you go along. Window rollers that are worn out, cab mounts, broken parts from the 50 years of use.

I had a large amount of hidden damage that some one spent a ton of time to bondo up, almost to the point it would have been cheaper to just replace the panel. Time wise they where wasting time.

I guess if you want a turn key truck then buy one , if you want to know that it is right then build one. I looked at a 63 in PHX last summer that was a frame off. Or so it was stated. The parts may have been removed but it was not even a decent job. But from 20 feet away nice looking truck.

This was all filled in and hidden. This is one of the nice panels, it took a long time to get all of this pulled and shrunk, welded back up. If you have to have a shop to a complete truck 5 + grand would not be out of line at all.

Re: 1966 c10

I have a problem with the " Collectors " aspect of the ad. The truck has been modified from it's original state and no longer reflects it's originality, thus collectors status.

Painted re-sell red and carpeting on the cowl, Speakers in the doors, padding on the door panels, the seat is not original. That is not the original grill or bumper or wheels.
I'd go over that truck with a fine tooth comb.

First older car I bought was a 1970 Ford Torino. I bought it for about 2k and it had "minimal" rust.... turns out the small bubbling at the Passenger A pillar/roof was almost the entire A pillar gone from rust. By the time I got into it I practically had to give the car away.

Then came my '66. I knew it was rusty but it wasn't until I took it off the frame that the big problems became apparent. A little bit of rust in the outer floors turned into my cab mounts, outer floors, and rockers being eat up with rust. The end result came out satisfactory for me but it definitely wasn't without it's surprises.

I'm confident that you can find a comparable truck at less of a shock to your wallet.
